| Turkey/Developement of Turkish Union The Turkish Islamic Union must have a structure that preserves member states' independence, national borders, rights, and interests. Each sovereign state must strive to unite under a shared Islamic culture, develop common policies, and establish the legislative and administrative organs that will implement them. The purpose here is not to achieve a structural merger of states, but to unite behind common policies and interests in order to achieve the political power that such a union would have. |

European Parliament Committee Adopts Draft of Turkey Report
The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday adopted a draft motion for a resolution on Turkey's progress report 2009. Sixty committee members voted in favor of the draft report prepared by Dutch parliamentarian Ria Oomen-Ruijten, while 11 abstained. Christian Democrats, Liberals and Socialists acted together on several amendments to the report. Several points regarding negotiations on a settlement for Cyprus pose a tougher deal for Turkey. http://www.turkishweekly.net/news/96...ey-report.html
